Introduction to Sociopathic Tendencies in Adults

By Paul Bruce at 2011-01-24 05:59:01

The psychopathic symptoms itself has been around for centuries wearing labels like "madness without delirium" and "moral insanity" until the late 1800s when "psychopath" was coined by a German clinician. However, the term, and its synonym sociopath, had always been used as a broad-brush, catch-all approach directed to criminals who seemed violent and unstable.

When people watch some thriller movies such as Saw, Halloween or Sorority Row, the word psychopath might be pop up in their mind. However, psychopaths are not always like they are described by the thriller movies. They are belongs to some different subcategories that make them have some different behavior. They may commit acts in the relationship that leave the other partner hurt, bewildered, and confused by their behavior. Personality disorders such as narcissism or sociopath/psychopathy are very destructive in relationships, and are very difficult to treat.

A personality is made up of several different components, including how the person interacts with their peers and the world around them, their beliefs, their emotional coping strategies, their thoughts and their pervasive mood. For someone with a disorder, there was a stage in their development where things did not progress as it should.

They look and dress the same way as most businessmen they may even use the same language. Some of these people are fairly persuasive, they can manipulate, they're very charming, some of them even charismatic. The brilliant psychological theorist and author Andrew M. Lobaczewski has formulated and described the process of how psychopathic individuals gradually infiltrate socioeconomic institutions and movements.

Naturally enough, they're Hollywood's favourite bad chaps and chapesses! The problem with Hollywood, well one of them, anyway, is that they regularly confuse the psychopath with the psychotic. There are already methods to screen psychopaths such as combination of the Hare Psychopathy Checklist, seeing body's reaction to fear and emotional stimuli, and brain scans that show if certain parts of the brain light up or don't when presented with emotional input.

With most mental health problems, psychological testing can be employed to provide clear criteria as a basis for a diagnosis, there are, however, no such tests for personality disorder per se, so any diagnosis is by definition unreliable and lacking in validity. Completely lacking in conscience and feelings for others, they selfishly take what they want and do as they please, violating social norms and expectations without the slightest sense of guilt or regret.

We all know people like this in our workplace - our colleagues, our co-workers, our boss, upper management, the salespeople - but few of us even considered that these people may, in fact, actually be psychopaths. Then the groups were shown photos of fearful faces, people obviously terrified of something. By the way, both the smiling faces and the fearful faces were compared to neutral faces, hence the researchers were able to gauge the increased or decreased brain activity.

Now, I love animals, and if I found someone being cruel to one, I'd do them serious harm. The awful part about this interview was that when he was recounting the ways he used to hurt animals, I didn't really feel any hatred towards him. To their minds, other people view the world in just the same way that they do, and they struggle hard to understand that there are different points of view.
