Tips for Prevention Malaria

By Paul Bruce at 2011-02-23 04:32:28
Malaria symptoms include fever and flu-like illness, including shaking chills, headache, muscle aches, and tiredness. Nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea may also occur. Malaria may cause anemia and jaundice (yellow coloring of the skin and eyes) because of the loss of red blood cells. Infection with one type of malaria, Plasmodium falciparum, if not promptly treated, may cause kidney failure, seizures, mental confusion, coma, and death.

Symptoms of malaria come and go in a cycle and they stay for different lengths of time. This is especially true in the initial stages of the disease. The cycle occurs due to that lifecycle of the malaria causing parasite. If the symptoms occur in a cyclic manner, you can be sure that you are suffering from malaria as many of these symptoms are also common to bacterial, viral or parasitic infections.

If you suspect someone or even yourself that some symptoms are occurring don't hesitate to visit the nearest health clinic you can directly go. This is not like other diseases that if you obtained vaccines for them, you are now immune. Immunity may be obtained only if you are used to it but it still advisable to obtain another.

Malaria is a serious infectious disease caused by a microbial parasite known as Plasmodium. This parasite infects mosquitoes of the genus Anopheles. The female Anopheles mosquito transmits this disease among humans via mosquito bites. Out of the eleven species of the genus Plasmodium, five are known to cause malaria among human beings. They are Plasmodium falciparum, Plasmodium vivax, Plasmodium ovale, Plasmodium malariae and Plasmodium knowlesi; with the first strain being the most dangerous.

Malaria can be prevented in different ways. Poor economical countries use what is known as bed nets that are well treated with insecticide as this means of prevention is very cheap. Drugs is another way of preventing this disease, but drugs are not cheap and researchers discovered that drugs from the quinine family is a good bet for the treatment of malaria.

Malaria is a serious disease caused by a parasite. Infected mosquitoes spread it. Malaria is very common throughout the world. In the United States, the main risk is to persons traveling to tropical and subtropical countries where malaria is a problem. There are four different types of malaria caused by four related parasites. The most deadly type occurs in Africa south of the Sahara Desert.

The type of anti-malaria pill you need depends on the country you visit, local pattern of drug resistance, and personal medical conditions. On the CDC website, you can find malaria information by country along with CDC recommended medication regimens. Symptoms can occur within a week of exposure or even several months after leaving an endemic area.

Smart travellers will educate themselves and do everything possible to avoid contact with mosquitoes. To be fair, it is not the actual mosquito but the malaria parasite carried by infected mosquitoes that poses the danger. No matter how many precautions are taken, the potential to contract this potentially life-threatening disease will always exist when travelling to tropical and sub-tropical areas of the world
